In a non-typical fashion, a major musical event on Koh Samui Island was announced at Tokyo Joes Blues Bar tonight. The event has been named Samui Island Blues And World Music festival, or SIBAWM for short. On hand to give a sampling of the types of music scheduled was Tewan, Todd “Tongdee” Lavelle, Eddie Paandin, Bob King Hailing, Khun In and Cannnonball as well as other performers. In the forth coming days, December 28 through January 6, the island will be hosting around 30 performers at 10 different venues and one specially built stage at Bophut.

Koh Samui, originally a backpacker’s haven in Thailand, has evolved into a major holiday destination. Said Alan Sadd, festival director, “We are not charging for it. All we want is for people to come and have a good time.”
