Bangkok Jungle sponsors One World Beat

Bangkok Jungle is proud to be among the Sponsors of this year’s One World Beat Global Music Festival. We will be covering the entire event. Look for upcoming additional information.

One World Beat
One World Beat is a Switzerland-based non-profit organization whose mission is to unite socially conscious musicians and charities for social change—Music Making a Difference! One World Beat is an all-volunteer organization that provides musicians and charitable organizations a platform on which to communicate their message, while raising the consciousness of the planet, and much needed funding to support those in need. One World Beat shares this goal with various charities each year.

The 2005 One World Beat Global Music Festival which began in Switzerland as an all-volunteer effort of socially conscious musicians, NGOs and volunteers uniting to stage concerts for charities, now in its third year, expands to 200 events in more than 40 countries including Australia, Brazil, Burundi, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo, England, Germany, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and the USA.

The three-day global music festival is a series of concerts taking place simultaneously in various cities, including New York, Paris, London, Los Angeles, Sydney, and Bangkok from March 17-19, 2005, providing a platform for musicians to convey a message of hope through their music.

Phil Collins, Sheena Easton, Bonnie Tyler, Mark King & Level 42 and Michelle Gayle are official One World Beat Supporters. The One World Beat website has approximately 3,000 visitors every day.

Supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the 2003 One World Beat Festival led to its first-ever global volunteer effort, reaching a worldwide audience helping to raise money for many charities.

People all over the world will be able to participate in this all-genre event by logging on to www.oneworldbeat.org to listen to the webcasts of artist performances and live interviews from around the globe. People will also be able to download music from the broadcast, bid on auction items, or make a donation to help support the fight against AIDS.

Here in Bangkok, the event is again taking place at Tokyo Joe’s Blues Bar in Sivaporn Plaza, Sukhumvit Soi 24, opposite the Ariston Hotel. The three day event will feature the cream of Bangkok’s premier Blues, Jazz and R & B groups, as well as a night of Rock and Metal bands, all of whom are donating their skills. Donations in Thailand will be made to Father Joe Maier at the HDF Mercy Centre in Klong Toey to support children living with HIV/AIDS.

    Hi
    Nice site.
I am in Bangkok trying to do a live music show called Blues Over Burma to raise money (awareness at this stage would be FINE) for Karen refugees and internally displaced persons inside Burma. Of course, I am very wary of attracting attention of the event which makes promotion a real challenge, but really someone has got to do it. My one solution to the problem of politics was to come up with another name for the even like BLOOZEOVERRUMBA or Blues Oven Rumble or some kind of anagram. I have been talking to local musicians and bar owners — well 2– and there is A TON of skepctism… towards anything related to Burma which I understand. This doesn’t change the fact there there are 100,000 thousand refugees living on the Thai border, a few hundred thousand living in the jungle forced to leave their homes. Really I didn’t care about these people until I met them in the camp and lived with them– before that I was just like everyone else: In wanna play my drums, drink beer, and bang a hot chick. Anyway I am gunning at the Foreign Correspondents Club– what a better way to get press than doing a show amonngst a bunch of journalists? The cause is worth it: Tori Amos came to Thailand and visited the Dr. Cynthia’s clinic in Maesot (she is a refugee who treats Karen refugees) and very recently a record called For Our Lady was released in honor of Aung Sang Suu Kyii (check out US Campaign for Burma) and Angelina Jolie is the UNHCR’s (UN Refugee Committee) goodwill ambassador to refugees (she visits camps all over the world including the ones here in Thailand), Mc Gill University in Montreal is doing a Burma Fundraiser in April.

Rock on People. Which o you prefer Bloozeoverumba or Blues Oven Rumble?
