Tokyo Joe’s tsunami relief “Beat the Wave - Andaman Aid” wrapped up last night playing to a full house. Through their efforts a small but worthy about of money was raised for the cause. The benefit was a two day bands showcase beginning on January 28 and ending on January 29. It gave Bangkok Jungle a chance to hear some new groups for the first time. Overall, it was an enjoyable two evenings of good music.

The first night of the event began with performers Mekong Doctor Blue, Blue on Blue, The Jungle Band and Cannonball. All of which put on some great performances. Also in attendance was “Keb Keb the Magic Clown” who helped in collecting the donations.

The second night opened with Adam Ryan. Adam’s slide roots blues, Celtic folk and flamenco style of music is still hard to describe and he would rather if everyone would just label him as a singer songwriter. He was followed by the Stone Head band, a group comprised by all Thais. Both Ryan and the Stone Head put in fine performances.

Todd Thongdee followed and he and his band really set the place on fire. Todd is a real performer who’s in-tune with the crowd and really gets them on their feet and dancing.

The benefit was closed by Jeff T and his Soi Dog Blues Band. Their performance was complimented by a guest female Blues singer.

Gauging by the number of new Tokyo Joes t-shirts and baseball caps in the crowd, a fair number of these t-shirts were sold; the bar had pledged 100 baht toward the benefit for each one sold.

“We take our t-shirts very seriously,” said Jeff T. Jeff, along with leading his Soi Dogs, is also the manager of Tokyo Joe’s.
