On Saturday, 10 December, a group of my friends from Bangkok University International College and I were invited by our Japanese teacher to “Ramwong and Bon Odori Festival”. The event was held by the Japanese association in Thailand at the Bangkok Metropolitan Youth Center (Thai-Japan) in Din Deang. Japanese people normally hold this festival annually in the summertime to celebrate their ancestors with traditional folk dances and music. We also celebrated the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 78th Birthday Anniversary. We were all wearing the Japanese traditional costumes, called “Yukata”, which was a large and beautiful one-piece dress.

The event started with an impressive performance from Japanese students, followed by several other shows, included Thai Ramwong, Bon-Odori and Japanese Drum. As the shows proceeded, we eventually found ourselves dancing around the stage with other Thai and Japanese dancers. The event was enjoyable and I also had a chance to taste delicious Japanese food, meet some new Japanese friends and experienced their beautiful culture.
