Brits Screw Up Ploenchit Fair Music Menu - Again!
History repeated itself Saturday when the Ploenchit Fair organisers once again took for granted the loyalty of local professional musicians who give up their time for the annual charity event, only to be shunted on and off stage like trained animals.
This year the Soi Dog Band - a Thai band - were booked and advertised to play at 7 pm for an hour. Just as they were about to take the stage they were unceremoniously informed by the on-duty staffer (Paul Jackson had gone to his gig) she had decided to include another band in the same spot and “could the Soi Dog Band play just half an hour now?”
Soi Dog were absolutely not amused having invited lots of friends and fans to see them headline the event and told the lady - apparently a full time maths teacher - what to do with that equation, and left for their paying gig at Tokyo Joe’s on Sukhumvit Soi 26.
Cannonball played on as if nothing had happened in the fortuitously rescheduled slot and watched their ‘blues brethren’ and a very disappointed Jeff T and the Soi Dog Band leave the Fair, vowing never to offer their services again - in any form.
And the history bit? Exactly the same thing happened to Dr Blues and his band a couple of years back when organisers held the Ploenchit Fair for the first time down in Dusit near Parliament. Mid-gig, the good Doctor Blues was kindly asked to vacate the stage with his band to allow another band a few minutes before the fair ended. Needless to say he has never been back since.
Charity begins at home right? How about running the show with a little more professionalism and consideration for the commitment of your volunteers?
