Caravan Theatre’s March Events
Acclaimed dancer, Ketut Ika Inggas, will lead young girls through an exploration of Balinese dance March 8-9 2008. Grace, beauty and physical challenge define Balinese dance, the backbone of Balinese culture. Posture, complex movements and mental focus all come into play, as students learn to appreciate the sacred tradition of this unique art form.
Participants will learn the principles of Balinese dance, build body awareness, come to trust their capabilities, and feel the joy of dance. The workshop will culminate in the performance of “Panyembrama,” the Balinese Welcome Dance for an audience of family and friends.
Ketut Ika Inggas, born to a Balinese family, began learning dance when she was 4 years old. For years she performed dance either in temple for religious purposes or for entertainment. Besides Balinese dance, she also trained in other Indonesian traditional dances, including Sumatran and Javanese dances. Ketut has taught dance in England, Japan, and Thailand. Although her Master’s Degree is in Development Studies, dance remains her personal calling.

March 29-30 / May 10-11 2008: Viewpoints Improvisation
Over a period of two days, Australian actress, Anna Voronoff, will guide workshop participants through a physical theatre style of improvisation called Viewpoints. Participants will explore a wide variety of creative movement techniques to awaken awareness of their bodies and the way they move in space, and to build physical-response among the participants. The process begins with simple movement, and progresses through the use of physical impulses to create moments of theatre, and finally culminates in the addition of voice. Viewpoints has ignited the imaginations of actors, directors, choreographers, designers and writers since its introduction 20 years ago. It is a deep, exhilarating exploration of one’s creative self.
Anna Voronoff was trained in improvisation in Australia and has been working in devising theatre through improvisation for 20 years. Anna has worked with numerous ensembles in Melbourne and Canberra and has toured many of the shows created to festivals within Australia and abroad. At present she is working with Caravan Theatre in Bangkok to create an adult cabaret/sketch comedy show about life as an expat in Thailand.
