Saucy Chick or male Guitarist (or Pianist) needed to
complete New Wave/Punk/Ska
group with ostentatious Brit-trash front-man and
seasoned rhythm section.
Bad attitude/slutty wardrobe
outranks musical ability. Blokes considered only if
they have no qualms about cross-dressing.
pls call adam on 016680868(he speaks thai) or rick on 066112396
February 17th, 2005 at 2:26 pm
Actually it’s Ricardo that wants a cross-dressing guitarist or keyboardist so that he can finally come out of the closet but Peter (the drummer) has been known to get a little freaky at times as well. Of course I (Adam, bassist) would never get tarted up in lacy women’s underwear for a performance. That’s just a myth! But if you are interested in NOT taking yourself seriously while thrashing out some reminiscent party faves then give us a call. It beats sitting around Soi Zero complaining that there’s no decent bands/venues in BKK!

March 19th, 2005 at 10:16 pm
Anyone need a drummer to jam with? I will be here in Bangkok for a few months. My influences as far as rock is concerned are: Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, Hendrix, Springsteen. I also like Phish, Jane’s Addiction, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In the punk category I was a big follower of dead punk GG Allin, the bay Area band Rancid as well as the earlier punk/ska outfit which spawned them Operation Ivy. Very early influences were hard rock and metal bands: Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Metallica, and the Black Crowes. I was also a very heavy fan of the English band, the Smiths as well as Morrissey, and the Cure. I am also a big fan of Beck’s Sea Change album. As far as newer music I like Linkin Park, Prodigy, and Fat Boy Slim. I also like Phish, Jane’s Addiction, and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I don’t know much about jazz but Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew would be the album I would want to listen to. As far as drumming influences and style I think Kenny Aronoff who played with John Cougar Mellencamp is pretty cool. If you are into any of the aforementioned and would like to jam, contact me at bloozarumba@yahoo.com

Hi I am a mature Drummer of many years experience looking to find work in Thailand. Can anybody tell me what the pros and cons are of doing this. Is it possible to make a better living than say teaching english? are work permits hard to get for this? any info would be greatful. If you have a band or are a keen musician there I would like hear from you especially if you need a drummer.

March 26th, 2006 at 6:45 pm
Hey Noel,
My friend and I who are both teachers working in Bangkok just happen to be looking for a drummer. What sort of stuff do you like? We play a pretty odd assortment of anything really. And I’d be happy to try and answer some of your questions about working here.
March 27th, 2006 at 4:47 am
Hi Simon, I am contemplating taking a CELTA couse here myself in New Zealand before heading to Bangkok so I am assured of work. Unless of course this can be done playing music exclusively. Have you sounded out the viability of getting gigs there? What kind of pay you can expect to get? The music I like is a hard question. I guess I am quite easily pleased as long as it is played well. I was trained by a Jazz Drummer but never listen to it much.
March 27th, 2006 at 4:00 pm
Getting gigs is pretty easy. On average, our band used to play once or twice a month at a couple of different pubs around town. Unfortunately most of the venues here either already have an in-house band or don’t want live music. It’s especially difficult for bands who want to play rock & roll which is kind of what we(try to) play so regular gigs in terms of money is not good for us.
March 28th, 2006 at 5:44 am
What about gear? Did you buy it there or bring it with you? Obviously drums are a lot to haul. How do prices compare on equipment?
March 28th, 2006 at 3:48 pm
Yep, bought all of mine here. Prices aren’t really any cheaper unfortunately and in some cases more expensive if you want recognized brands. Most pubs have in-house equipment for bands to use so you could probably get by without them. Can’t say I’m familiar with too many kiwi bands, do you like any aussie stuff?
March 29th, 2006 at 2:37 am
Not too familiar with the Aussie scene. They seem to claim any Kiwi bands as there own. Well it sounds like I better get some qualifications in the English teaching field so I can be asssured of a decent enough job there and put the band idea as a second income. I take it you are Australian. Whats the pay like these days teaching? Can you get by without getting into savings and have a life?
March 29th, 2006 at 6:24 pm
Well, I wouldn’t say we “claim” Kiwi bands. I think it’s more to do with the benevolent nature of Australians to take in and adopt our less fortunate neighbours. I suppose that’s why they keep coming. Pay rates are determined based on your qualifications and the particular school you’re working at. There are two types of school: Thai schools and International schools. Thai schools caqn’t afford to pay much at all and the International schools are basically free to pay whatever they like. This can range between the equivalent of competive salaries in the States to well-below the standard wage of teachers in New Zealand. Something else you might want to think about is that there are many foreigners living here who work as private tutors. They manage to scrape by as the cost of living is very low.
March 30th, 2006 at 2:44 am
Scraping by is not really what I had in mind. It sounds like I am better served to go for some qualifications before heading off from here. Thanks for the info., I hope you find a drummer soon. Keep in touch if you like. I will post here again when I am closer to going, after I finish a course most likely. All the best.

My company is providing entertainment for an incentive program for Autodesk, May 23rd, which will be held at Suon Amporn near the Parliament. I need one male vocalist, an ex-pat, who knows or can learn the Rufus Wainwright tune on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, Complainte de la butte. My Music Director here in Las Vegas is creating a piano track for me on CD which will be used as accompaniment. I was hoping to find a vocalist soon so that the two could exchange emails regarding vocal range / key, etc.
Event is a dinner event, vocalist will sit on a stool, in a downpool of light, dressed in black (will provide shirt, beret, and scarf … a Jacques Brel feel). This tune will serve as an introduction for their incentive program next year, to be held in Paris.
Pay is $350 U.S.
Contact me through my email, suzanne@choozientertainment.com if you think you fit the bill…
Thanks a lot.

I am a Pro Keyboard player now living in Florida. However, I am soon considering a move to the Pattaya area. Is there any need for a pro player who has (4) Four Keyboards on Stage, sing lead vocals and also play Lead Guitar. I am now 50, just retired and wish to keep playing. I am looking for contacts of pro musicians and bands, whereas I can begin making contacts, prior to my move. Ideally, I would like to find a working house band situation if possible. I play the best of 60’s. 70’s, 80’s including R&B and Funk, and have toured with National Acts. My interests lead to “High Energy Dance Acts”. Feel free to give me your thoughts and ideas, as well as any suggestions. Feel free to contact me at TOMTOWNER@aol.com.

Any amateur musicians looking to join a band for fun and possibly live work? My friend and I are looking for a drummer and possibly a second guitarist. No pretentions here. We have experience in bands but we aren’t pros. We intend to play rock, but of what variety we’re not certain and we’re open minded (probably a mix of covers and originals). We reside on the far side of the river, so anybody staying in the Thonburi side would be ideal. There’s a rehearsal space on Phetkasem road we intend to use, but any other suggestions would be welcome.

Hello from USA, just wondered if someone could tell me if the thai band Endorphine has a website or some way to contact email or write that you know of. I love thier music and was lucky enough to actually meet singer Da on my most recent annual trip to Thailand and I want to send a message. Is it possible? Thank you. snod307@hotmail.com

Go get ENDORPHINE, the coolest Thai band in quite a few years. One of the few bands you can buy their CDs and really enjoy even if you don’t understand a word of Thai. Da is a true great rock singer.
