Dogs, The

Dig the New Breed
Band profile by Steve Thompson
The Dogs gave their freshest songs an airing during their latest live outing at Noriega’s in Silom Soi 4 recently. “Rise in the East” stood out among the new material, which hints that while this breed of dogs may be maturing, they still go for the jugular.
Among the established songs in the latest live set, the anathematic “Hold On” probably best illustrates the peaks the band can reach, revving up an appreciative crowd, while the sentimental “Summer Music,” an ode to the outdoor rock festival, brings back warm memories of youthful days.
While there are echoes of the Doors, Teardrop Explodes, Joy Division and the Happy Mondays within their repertoire, the Dogs have really dug out their own unique sound. It is fair to say that the addition of keyboards and horns on some of the established songs has brought about a rounder, fuller sound. The “live” sound was also considerably better this time out than last time I visited this venue.
In the meantime, fair play to the boys for retaining an unpretentious stance and accommodating a cover of the Iggy Pop classic, “I wanna be your dog.” Predictable? Maybe. Boring? Never.

I was at the gig and was impressed. The tunes were not that disimilar to what I hear around London.

Last time I saw you there were two guitarists, what happened to the other guy? I thought you sounded much better without him!! When is the next gig?

So upset at missing the last gig! Definitely go to the next one.
