Dr. Roland (“Dr. Salsa”)
Deejay Profile : Dr. Roland (“Dr. Salsa”)
Dr. Roland a French national, was born in Benin (West Africa), the country of “Voodoo”, bell and percussion music and traditional Rumba. His ancestors were among the people taken from West Africa during the 17-19th centuries to the Caribbean and to Cuba where they planted the seeds of Caribbean music and Salsa. Dr. Roland grew up in an atmosphere of traditional Rumba and Afro-Cuban music, rhythm and dance. For more than 20 years, he developed a genuine passion for those expressions. When he settled in Paris during the eighties, he improved his Salsa proficiency by taking classes with the best international instructors. As a (real) Doctor in law and international lawyer by profession, he had the opportunity to travel around the world and to learn more about Salsa dance, music and culture. He also developed a un unique Salsa network in different parts of the globe (in Africa, the Middle-East, Europe, USA, the Pacific and now in Asia). Dr. Roland has accumulated a rare collection of Salsa, Latin, Afro-Cuban and Caribbean music that he enjoys to share whenever possible as guest Deejay (for hobby).
He is hailed as “Dr.Salsa” for his vast Salsa knowledge and culture as well as his lectures and articles on this topic. He played at major Salsa events in Thailand where he is established since 2002. He played as guest Deejay in China (Beijing), Hong Kong, India, Laos, Singapore. Dr. Roland was the house Deejay at “La Rueda Club” in Bangkok for two years. He is currently the house Deejay at “Noriega’s” (Silom Soi 4) where he gives Salsa classes and plays every Sunday nights to dedicated Salsa followers.
He is also plays as alternate Deejay every two Saturdays at “Fogo Vivo” (Hotel Intercontinental). Dr. Roland’s philosophy is to promote Salsa as a cultural activity and to use this music and dance as medium to convey messages of friendship, respect, universality and multicultural diversity.
Dr. Roland is former Senior Vice-President of Thailand Salsa Club (TSC). He is the founder of the Euro-Asia Latina Concept (“Y.A.L.C”).
