Father and Son

The Jungle Vine Column in Bangkok ThailandThe “Jungle Vine” column by Robert Lorimor
Tuesday night I was invited over to O’Reilly’s to celebrate Johnny’s birthday and I had the pleasure of meeting his family. I want to thank them for making me feel as if I was part of their family. I had a good time. Johnny would not tell me his age, but obviously, the music in his heart is keeping him very young.

We featured Johnny (Jean Descamp) in a previous story on this website. What I did not write about then was that Johnny also has a son who is following his footsteps. His name is Christophe Descamp and along with writing and singing songs, he is has also been busy acting in a Thai movie. I heard Christophe sing for the first time last night at the party and I was impressed. And like any proud father would, Johnny says his son is even better than himself.

Again, thanks Johnny. Happy Birthday.

  • Robin Hood’s, Sukhumvit Soi 33/1, has The Fugitives now playing on Thursday nights. And don’t forget to print out the “Buy Two, Get One Free” coupon ad running on this site. • Tim from Chicago told me the other night that O’Reilly’s on Silom is the center of the Universe. There, he said it.
  • I am currently reading and enjoying Opium Sparrows by Kevin Wood, the MC and singer over at Radio City in the Patpong Entertainment Zone. Keven self-published the book and tells me the book has already sold out. He sold the book right from the music venue. Perhaps, if enough people ask him about it, he might decide to re-print the book.
  • Richardo writes to say the Innuendoes are having a going away party for their lead guitarist, Joel, on Saturday July 9th at Noriega’s. I guess that makes it somewhat official. Sorry to hear he is leaving the band. That also means the Innuendoes are looking for a new guitarist (pop, rock, punk).
  • Chris from The Dogs mentions their band is playing at the Brick Bar on Khao Sarn Road next Friday.
  • We are looking for someone to write a column about the Khao Sarn Road area and the music venues over there. We have to admit we do not get over there enough.
  • Why famous people’s death dates are are more celebrated then their birthday?
  • Our regular Blues columnist, Jeff T, has a new column in the last issue of Metro Magazine. Check it out.
  • Coming up this Friday July 1st, is Tokyo Joe’s monthly Full Blues Party. Back by popular demand is Mint and the boys from Blue on Blue from 9.00pm, followed by the Soi Dog Blues Band at 11.00pm. As is the habit there will be free shooters every hour on the hour, optional of course, the recipe for another kickin’ night at TJ’s.
  • Scott from the Chang Noi Band writes to tells us he and his band are playing Pedro’s Music Bar, corner Sukhumvit and Asoke, on Friday nights.
  • If you want to make sure something gets into this column, it is best to get the info to me by Wednesday night. You can use our online contact form.
