Marusha–Bridges for Peace-Views of a DJ

The Faculty of Psychology, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Communication Arts and Language Institute of Chulalongkorn University, in conjunction with the International Peace Foundation, are organizing and hosting the “Bridges—Dialogues towards a Culture of Peace” program for February, featuring Marusha, today considered the most famous female DJ in the world.

Born November 18, 1966 in Nuremberg and named Marusha Gleiss, Marusha began her career in 1991 in Berlin with her Saturday radio program “Dancehall” now called “Rave Satellite”, which brought her much attention. But, it was her hit single, “Somewhere over the Rainbow”, which put her into the world limelight. Selling over half a million copies and ranking third on three charts, it was the first time a techno track had achieved such success. Her second mix, “It Takes me Away” achieved similar acclaim, and her debut album, “Rave land” is still one of the most popular dance albums of all time. This was followed by the release of her album “Wir”, or We, and expression of solidarity and homage to all those who feel they belong to the techno house scene. She has continued to produce new music and travel the globe, performing at small clubs and raves of up to 20,000. She has also won such accolades as the VIVA Comet for Best Techno Act and Echo’s Best Female National Artist Award.

Marusha will be giving a short introduction before answering questions in a dialogue led by two of Thailand’s leading news broadcaster and MCs. The program will take place on February 14, 2005 from 14.00 to 16.00 p.m. in the Chulalongkorn University Main Auditorium. Admission is free.
