Ivor and Bach

The Jungle Vine Column in Bangkok ThailandThe “Jungle Vine” column by Robert Lorimor
This was told me by an English man in Robin Hood’s, an English pub on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 in Bangkok. Though the name Ivor and Bach were mentioned in the story as told to me, I was unable to find any reference to this “true” story on the internet. I am going to retell the story, but keep in mind I probably have the names wrong in my version of the story. Obviously, an English man can tell this story better than I can.

Archenemies for life, Baron Ivor and Lord Bach, were both short men. Apparently, they were also short on few other attributes.

Baron Ivor surrounds Lord Bach’s castle laying siege to the castle. Each day begins with each man shouting taunts at each other over the wall. This bantering went on for some time and gets more ridiculous each day.

Baron Ivor: “Come out, come out and fight so we can end this right now. I dare you to come out and play.”

Lord Bach sticks his tongue out at Ivor and sings: “You can’t get me. You can’t get me. You can’t get me…”

Finally, Ivor devises a daring plan. By scaling the walls and sneaking into the castle, Ivor succeeds in taking the Bach’s wife as a hostage and takes her back to his camp.

The next day the two men meet again at the castle walls.

Baron Ivor: “Now you must come out. I have your wife. What do you have to say now?”

Lord Bach: “Thank you so much.”

Hey, they do play live music in the Robin Hood and that is how I can justify retelling this story here on a music site. Besides, life goes on.
