Ivor Bach, not Ivor and Bach

The Jungle Vine Column in Bangkok ThailandThe “Jungle Vine” column by Robert Lorimor
Yep, I got it all wrong and I promise this will be the last of this Ivor business.

Last week’s Jungle Vine told the story of Ivor and Bach and their little scuffle over a castle in Lower North Wales. The English man who originally told me the story was kind enough to point out I got a few things wrong in my version of the story. Well, actually I got many things wrong.

Instead of two men called Ivor and Bach, it was one man called Ivor Bach.

Ivor surrounds Cardiff Castle controlled by a Norman Lord. Many days of siege warfare and many words later followed (see the last Jungle Vine column for the exact dialogue exchanged). Ivor, in an attempt to force the Norman Lord to come out and fight, scales the walls and kidnaps the Norman Lord’s wife and takes her back to the hills.

Six week later Ivor send the Norman Lord’s wife back to the castle with a “Thank you” note. Moreover, she had a “bit of a smile” on her face.

That is why ivor is the most popular folk hero in Southern Wales; at least, according to the English man who told me this story.

Now knowing the correct version of the story, we must ask, “Who would you kidnap and take to the hills?”

The open dates are: Feb the 5th and Feb the 14th and 15th.
