Story by Cecil Pearson Brown
The 7th Annual Emporium Serenade Music Festival opened Friday, February 18 to a group of appreciative music lovers including a number of Bangkok celebrities. The event was held at Fashion Hall and was opened with a stellar performance by the Eldee Young Jazz Band. Eldee Young, a renowned Bass Fiddle player overwhelmed the crowd with his energetic and lively performance. He was accompanied by Butler on piano and Tama Goh on drums. Eldee Young told Bangkok Jungle “I started playing music at the age of nine when I was given my first guitar, but I didn’t start playing professionally until 13. I was supposed to get four dollars but the man that got me the job took one dollar”. Eldee Young, Jerry Montiero on piano and Tama Goh on drums will be performing nightly, except Monday at the Living Room, located at the Sukhumvit Sheraton until May. The group is presently accompanied by Carmen Bradford.

I am actually related to Eldee but I never got the chance to meet him or hear him in action. I wish I could have seen him! It is heart breaken that he has past and before I ever got the chance to even shake his hand.
I pray he rest in peace and that the family can live after his lost but never forget him. He’s loved by everyone and I know he will be missed.

I met Eldee Young while he was performimg at the Emphorium Resturaunt in South Bend, Indiana. I enjoyed stopping in after my gigs to hear him. He was using Floyd Morris on piano at the time. I found Eldee to be very friendly and approachable. We traded a lot of musician stories during his breaks. The last time I seen Eldee was while he was performing at the Weston Hotel in Chicago. His bass playing and vocals were superb. I will never forget him.
