My Disco launches tour at Asoke Bar

Melbourne, Australia’s My Disco will be headlining the iHear gig at Asoke Bar, kicking off their two-week tour of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
Australian music critics wrestle with words to describe My Disco in the same way American critics were at a loss for words when Nirvana exploded onto the scene. A young, urgent three-piece, My Disco’s post-alternative rock defies easy categorization: their punchy 3×3 drums beats and rolling bass lines have the swing of jazz, while Ben Andrew’s angular, meandering guitar fretwork play like paired down prog-rock riffs. Singer/bassist Liam Andrews shouts/whispers into the mike, his sparse and raw vocals registering as an external component of the music’s instrumental core. If forced to make comparisons, you could say My Disco had elements Fugazi, with touches of Shellac and The Mars Volta.

My Disco will also be playing in Bangkok at a pre-tour party with From the Makers of Casablanca (Noriega’s, Tues Feb 22). “From the Makers of Casablanca” will be joining them for shows in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
