Olarn Signs His Strat For Doc Blues
At the opening of the spanking new Overtone Music Cave on RCA Friday 27th, local blues singer, guitar player and band leader Mekong Doctor Blues took along his recently purchased Fender Squier Olarn Signature Model, a Fender instrument endorsed by Thai guitar legend Olarn Promjai, and at the jazz club asked Olarn to sign the guitar for posterity.
“I saw the guitar over at Music Concept on Level 3 of Central World Plaza back in January and had to have one as Olarn had endorsed it as his own signature model. It seemed it was destined to be a special guitar with its strong Thai connection and Olarn’s input, and I had to have one as he is undoubtedly one of the finest guitar players in Thailand and really knows his stuff when it comes to guitars.
“And yes it is a good instrument especially for the price. And Olarn’s design means the ‘unnecessary’ tone control pots have been removed, leaving only the pick-up position switch. And this thing was maybe built in China but it sounds every bit as good as an American Strat…and the finish and feel are beautiful too. I have owned Strats all my life and this is a very nice axe ready to rock, play blues or even tasty jazz if you are still saving up for your 335!’
The Doctor has promised he will donate the guitar to the first charity auction he sees raising money for underprivileged young Thai kids to learn music or go to school.
