An artist profile by Alex Pithie
Thanapat Mathayomchand better known as “Prode” since he was a kid, is a passionate jazz fan and a stellar Thai jazz guitarist outclassing many world class players with his fusion jazz style and depth of musical knowledge.
Inspired initially by good old rock ‘n roll, he went to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he was taught by jazz mega musicians like Gary Burton, John Scofield, John Abercrombie and Charlie Banacos.
After school he toured around USA performing with many famous artists, including Grammy Award winning, Lisa Fisher, Barry White and Kool and the Gang.
After 13 years abroad, Prode returned to his beloved Thailand where he began teaching Jazz, performing with “The West Indies” and his “Jazz Quartet”, and doing workshops with world-class artists like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. He also took his band “Tanapat Jazz Group” on a nationwide concert tour.
Adding to his teaching experience, Prode became a producer at Grammy Records and then became product manager at CVD Music Ltd before returning to teaching at Silpakorn University.
Thanks to his valuable experience in all areas of the music world, Prode is now a director at KPN and has released one album - “Prode” - a collection of original jazz tunes which he wrote and produced himself.
