Stephen Stills says he’s cancer free, less than seven months after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer.

Stills spoke candidly to Uncut magazine about his recovery, explaining, “I’m fine now. The cancer’s gone and I’m going through all the things that one does when you lose that particular organ, like you have to wait for things to start functioning again. The (doctors) lie to you, because if they told you the truth when you’re diagnosed, guys would go, ‘Oh no, I’m not doing that,’ in which case, you end up in a f***ing diaper and die.”

Stills said that he did his homework before committing to the surgery: “I took steps immediately. I found out about it. I scheduled the surgery in October, so I had lots of time to prep. And you have to go through a liquid diet for a few days. So that was a lot of pounds that got put on. I looked like a water baby for a few months in (the concert film CSNY - Deja Vu), I’d gained 25 pounds and even made (David) Crosby look good.”

Stills says that he’s always shied away from both celebrity and being too open with the press: “The rampant ‘heaviosity’ of it has always escaped me. I read a different section of the paper. I don’t live in that world. That’s for aficionados and journalists, quite frankly.”
