Swedish Jazz Star Dies at 44

Swedish jazz pianist ESBJORN SVENSSON died in a scuba diving accident according to Burkhard Hopper, his manager.

Hopper said the 44-year-old composer died on Saturday diving in Sweden’s Stockholm archipelago. Svensson’s trio - which also includes Dan Berglund and Magnus Ostrom - was renowned for drawing younger audiences to the jazz scene and received numerous accolades for their music, including the European Jazz Award and the BBC Jazz Award.

The band had recently completed its eleventh album, Lencocyte, which had been slated for release in September (08).
