The Jungle Vine: Norah Jones and Blondie
Welcome to our new Jungle Vine column. This will be a “no rules” never-ending column in which we will cover various loose ends and the week’s upcoming events in Bangkok and Thailand.
- Emporium Serenade Music Festival continues this weekend. Lots of music. It’s worth dropping by the Emporium mall to check it out.
- The last night of the Ibycus Music Festival is Saturday night at the Sukhothai Hotel. Tickets cost 1,000 baht, including cocktails and can be purchased by calling 02-932-9208 or 02-651-0428/9.
- After selling out the BEC Tero Hall, the Norah Jones Concert was rescheduled and moved to the IMPACT Arena for Tuesday night, March 1. Her popularity has risen again since she won another Grammy.
- On Wednesday, Deborah Harry and Blondie, the pop icon band from the late 70’s and early 80’s is coming to Thailand Cultural Centre on March 2. Mai Jaroenpura is also performing at the concert.
- The Senor Pico’s Bar and Restaurant at the Rembrandt Hotel is offering a “Fiesta Mexicana-All You Can Eat and Drink” every Wednesday evening, beginning at 6pm. Enjoy an extensive buffet including fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas and more authentic Mexican food. You may drink as many Margaritas, Tequila shots, and beers as you like. Priced at 899++ per person.
- The Senor Pico’s Bar and Restaurant at the Rembrandt Hotel is also offering a “Nightly Party Menu” nightly from 6pm. The three different party menus priced at 660++, 770++, 880++. A complimentary Tequila shot is included. Cuban band, Zabetta, provides the entertainment while you are dining.
- Italianate, a new Italian restaurant at the Conrad Hotel is opening tomorrow night, Friday, February 25th. Chef Manager Nicola Coccia combines the best of Italian cuisine from various regions and presents the dishes in a modern style. Open for lunch from Monday to Friday, 12:00 - 2:30 pm with a Business Lunch which includes Antipasti Buffet and main course at Baht 500++. A la carte Dinner is served daily from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. After dinner, why not go down to Diplomat Bar and listen to Arlee Leonard.
- Sukhumvit Sheraton Grande Hotel is continuing their special barbeque buffet by the Sala pool. This buffet is outside will only continue while weather permitting and the “Rainy Season” stays away. Then, of course, stop by the Living Room after dinner and listen to Carmen Bradford
- Johnny One Man Band has changed his schedule since we did a feature on him. New schedule: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at Robin Hood and Tuesday and Thursday at O’Reillys Irish Pub. He’s now playing six nights a week. “Way to go, Johnny.”
- Celtic Colours will be performing at St. David’s Society Welsh Ball on March 4. More details as we get it.
- Innuendoes is playing at ViVa in the antique section of Chatuchat market (near Kampaeng Pet Subway Station) from 6 to 9 pm. Just in case you wanted to know, their bass-player Adam says Viva is ran by a “Cool Chick” named A and she’s “Pretty Cool.”
- The ROL Trio will be performing at Tokyo Joe’s Blue Bar this Saturday night. Manager Jeff T tells us they are a real treat for jazz cats. He also reminds us that Tokyo Joe’s is now serving Guinness on tap and the are only bar on Sukhumvit 24 serving this “fine brew.”
- Aoy and Pom of Salsabangkok.com present the first visit of the world famous salsa DJ, Henry Knowles, at La Rueda from March 3rd - 5th.

- The Bed Supperclub is bringing in two more guest DJs. DJ Ian Carey for Friday and Saturday night, and then DJ Gilles Peterson for Wednesday, March 2.
