Young Cellist wins King’s Award
Tapalin Charoensuk, 18, won The King’s Award in “The Conrad Yound Musician of Thailand Competition” held March 31st at the Conrad Hotel during a gala performace. Ms Charoensuk, a Thai Cellist, won 20,000 baht prize and a trip to London again against 76 other applicants who had entered the competition.
The six other finalist who preformed at the Gala was Nonthaphat Wongwechwiwat, Violin, 15; Krit Niramittham, piano, 16; Thitapa Kimyingyot, piano, 16; Thapana Uparanukraw, trumpet, 18; Panyaphat Wongwechwiwat, cello, 13; and Channarong Jantararat, piano, 16.
The judges for the event:
- Richard Harvey: a prolific composer for Hollywood Films such as all the Harry Potter films , The Da Vinci Code , Kingdom of Heaven , The Lion King and many more. He has recorded for and collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney, Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, John Williams, Stanley Myers and numerous others and has also made several classical albums.
- Michael Ma: Head of Strings at the Hong Kong Academy, Hong Kong
- Chris Craker: General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sony BMG Masterworks, USA
- Albert Tiu: Assistant Professor in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Vice President of the Singapore Music Teachers’ Association, Singapore
