Multi-faceted and celebrated recording artist/producer Todd Rundgren is touring his first full-length record of original studio material in 4 years, entitled Arena. Rundgren has been on the road in support of the release on a 20 + U.S. city tour this summer - which kicked off with a week-long celebration in Hawaii. Jazz icon and legendary keyboardist Merl Saunders died at San Francisco’s Kaiser Hospital Friday morning from complications from his 2002 stroke. Saunders rose to national prominence in the 1970s after recording and with Jerry Garcia in a number of that guitarist’s Grateful Dead side-projects, including Legion of Mary and the Garcia/Saunders Band.
It got its first radio airplay in the States last week, prompting a collective gasp of underwhelmed incredulity. ‘We’re confident in saying that “Chinese Democracy” is certainly one of the best songs of the year,’ said one review. ‘It’s just a shame that the year is 1991.’
